The International Ibsen Scholarships were initiated by the Norwegian government and will be handed out for the third time in 2010. The scholarships are awarded annually and the applications are subject to scrutiny by an appointed jury. The purpose of the scholarships is to stimulate critical discourse in regards to existential and society-related subject matters concerning Henrik Ibsen. Projects granted scholarship in 2009 included "Ibsen through African eyes" (Australia/ Zambia), "Nora's Doors" (Egypt) and "Translating Ibsen to Arabic" (Egypt).
The Ibsen awards wants as many relevant applications as possible from projects throughout the world. Previous years, projects from Asia, North-America, Europe, Africa and Australia have received scholarships. Scholarships are applicable to individuals, organizations and institutions within the artistic and cultural communities.
The presentation of the scholarships is staged in Ibsen's birth town, Skien in Norway in September 2010 and coincides with Skien International Ibsen Conference.
The application deadline for The International Ibsen Scholarships is April 15th, 2010. For more information, please see the Ibsen Awards website.
