Royal Norwegian Embassy and Save the Children sign new agreement

12/02/2010 // The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu has agreed to provide a grant assistance of NOK 30 million (NRs 360,000,000 approximately) to Save the Children to implement programmes for the project period of 2010-2012. This three year project is the second phase of cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Embassy, which builds on the first phase which started in 2007 and was completed in 2009.

The Strategic Partnership for 2010-2012 focuses on quality education, child protection (including HIV/AIDS and youth focus) and children rights governance and youth participation.  The quality education programme will focus on providing access to quality education for children, particularly girls and children from marginalized communities and regions. HIV/AIDS will be an area of focus under child protection which will aim to create safe and protective environment for children while also protecting children from impact of AIDS. The programmes under child rights governance and youth participation will focus on strengthening child rights governance in Nepal and youth participation in social reconciliation, peace building, and livelihood development.

 

The objective of the project will support the Government of Nepal’s national plans and the Millenium Development Goals for Nepal. During the new phase of the project, SC will continue to implement programmes through government line agencies and local partner NGOs.

 

A strategic cooperation between SC and the Royal Norwegian Embassy will also be undertaken aiming to achieve positive results in key areas of child rights, child protection and education.

 

An agreement to this effect was signed on 5 Februaury 2010 at the Royal Norwegian Embassy by Royal Norwegian Charge d’Affaires a.i., Mr Einar Rystad, and Country Director of Save the Children, Mr. Brian J. Hunter.

 

Save the Children aims to continue advancing the rights of children to grow and to develop to their full potential in a safe, supportive and productive environment, by bringing lasting change in the lives of children through policy advocacy, practical works and empowerment through this partnership with the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
