11/09/2006 :: The Embassy in Kathmandu is involved in a number of events in Kathmandu to commemorate our famous playwright Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906). The following are the main events in 2006:
- ”Ibsen inspiring Nepalese artists” – Poets, painters and sculptors were invited to be inspired by a documentary on Ibsen’s life and art and by excerpts from Ibsen-plays performed by Nisha and Sunil Pokharel from Aarohan Theatre Group. Works produced were presented in connection with events in May (se below). Venue: Ambassador’s residence. Date: 18. March.
- ”Ibsen vs. Shakespeare” – a football match between Norwegian and British communities including Nepalese supporters. Venue: Jawalakhel. Date: 26. March.
- ”Buck ride up Hattiban” – a mountain-bike ride in the spirit of Peer Gynt. Organised together with the Norway-Nepal alumni associations. Venue: Hattiban. Date: 29. April.
- ”Reception with Ibsen” – National day reception with a Ibsen flavour. Norwegian food and exhibition of art inspired by Ibsen. Venue: Ambassador’s residence. Date: 17. May.
- ”An intimate Evening with Ibsen” – Food, music and poetry with a link to Ibsen. For the Nordic community in Nepal. Venue: Ambassador’s residence. Date: 22. May.
- ”Jazz version of Peer Gynt” – Big band jazz concert with Norwegian and Nepalese musicians performing the jazz version of the music to one of Ibsen’s most famous plays. Presentation of poems, paintings and sculptures. Venue: Birendra International Conference Centre. Date: 23. May.
- ”Jazz version of Peer Gynt” – As above, but this time an open air event for the general public. Venue: Kathmandu Durbar Square at 16.30. Date 24. May.
- ”Waffles with Ibsen” – Friday afternoon gathering for Norwegians in Nepal – this time with a Ibsen-quiz presented by Norwegian students. Venue: Embassy. Date: 26. May.
- ”The Ibsen Festival” – A theatre festival featuring Ibsen-plays performed by groups from several countries. Arranged by Aarohan Theatre. Venue: Gurukel. Date: October 2006.
- ”The Master Builder” – Performance of play by Aarohan Theatre Group. In Nepali – English synopsis will be available. Organised together with the Norway-Nepal alumni associations. Venue: Gurukel. Date: Fall 2006.
