Launching of the ”Who is Who of Nepali Women" database

The Norwegian Minister for International Development, Mr Erik Solheim congratulates the Women of Nepal on the occasion of the launching of the ”Who is Who of Nepali Women" database.

10/09/2007 :: - This database has names and CVs of more than 3200 qualified women from all over Nepal. It is a unique source to ensure the rightful representation of women in the Constituent Assembly and all political institutions in the new inclusive democracy of Nepal, says the Minister.

Norway has supported the role and active participation of women politicians and civil society activists in the peace process since the jana andolaan II, and the Women's database is an important step towards a strong representation of women in the political life. Minister Solheim encourages all political parties to make use of the Database in the nomination process for the Elections to the Constituent Assembly, in order to make the Elections a great success in the spirit of the jana andolaan.
 
- On this important day for the Women's Movement in Nepal, I also take the opportunity to reiterate the Government of Norway's strong support to the peace process and the Elections to the Constituent Assembly. We are following the preparations for the Elections on the 22. November with a keen interest, and I wish all the political parties good luck with their final preparations and campaigning before these historically important elections.
